## 2-D Meshing Of A Given Model using Hypermesh

Objective:

The aim of this project is to do a geometry clean up for given models and perform 2D mesh using the midplane surface extract for the given parameters for the shell element.

Procedure:

• Import the given model to Hypermesh --- Radioss. The Radioss is the solver in which the geometry will be imported for crashworthiness.
• Now check for the Geometry errors. The red line indicates that no surface is associated with the corresponding surfaces which have to be closed or the surface has to be removed.
• The green line is the ideal line for the 2-D mesh.
• The yellow line indicates that three surfaces have been associated with the same line.
• The geometry clean up is performed using commands such as Geometry -- Quick edit --- (Toggle, Washer surface, Filler surface, Add or remove points and so on).
• Thus the geometry is free from the red lines and yellow line. The model is ready to have meshed.
• Thus the geometry error is cleared and the below figure is shown

• After clearing the geometry errors, now auto extraction of the mid surface plane is done.
• To perform this operation, Geometry --- mid surface -- Auto extraction.
• Thus the midplane surface is extracted from the model 3 as shown in particular.
• And the holes with less than 5mm dia is closed and toggled so that it shouldn't affect during meshing process.

MODEL 3

• now to mesh the extracted mid-plane surface using auto mesh.
• Since it a 2-D mesh, 2-D --- Automesh, select all the surfaces that have to mesh and then return.
• Now after creating the mesh, The mesh elements are checked for the element length in which the max length must be less than 7mm and min length must be greater than 3.5mm.
• The mesh element length can be rectified using different tool command such as

2D-- element edit ---(combine, split)

2D-- Quality index -- clean up tools--(node optimize, element optimize, smooth, combine tria)

2D -- Element clean up.

• Thus after the mesh clean up, the various thickness has been assigned for the mesh element.
• At first, make the model as of current, then create a property and assign thickness as shown.

•  Thus the above model is cleaned up and meshed using automesh and given element length parameters is achieved using HYPERMESH.
