3D mesh creation for the models provided according to the mentioned parameters using Hypermesh

Objective: To create 3D meshes for the models provided in the challenge according to the parameters mentioned.

3D Meshing:

  • Tet collapse: 0.15 (for all 3 models)

1. Create Teramesh for Housing model,

  • Elements sizes: 2mm, 5mm, 7mm.

2. For the given Model 2 & 4,

  • Create a 3D mesh with 6mm.

Procedure:

1) Housing Model:

-Element size: 2mm, Tet collapse: 0.15:

  • Open Hypermesh and import the geometry model.
  • We have cover and hub.

  • Now hide the hub and make the cover as current.
  • Now clean the geometry using quick edit and auto cleanup tools.

  • Now go to 2D automesh and mesh with element size as 2mm.
  • Now check the quality index.
  • Now go to 3D tetramesh and mesh the cover, tetramesh is generated.

  • Now repeat the above steps by making the hub as current.

  • Now check for tet collapse 0.15.

-Element size: 5mm, Tet collapse: 0.15:

  • Open Hypermesh and import the geometry model.
  • We have cover and hub.

  • Now hide the hub and make the cover as current.
  • Now clean the geometry using quick edit and auto cleanup tools.

  • Now go to 2D automesh and mesh with element size as 5mm.
  • Now check the quality index.
  • Now go to 3D tetramesh and mesh the cover, tetramesh is generated.

  • Now repeat the above steps by making the hub as current.

  • Now check for tet collapse 0.15.

-Element size: 7mm, Tet collapse: 0.15:

  • Open Hypermesh and import the geometry model.
  • We have cover and hub.

  • Now hide the hub and make the cover as current.
  • Now clean the geometry using quick edit and auto cleanup tools.

  • Now go to 2D automesh and mesh with element size as 7mm.
  • Now check the quality index.
  • Now go to 3D tetramesh and mesh the cover, tetramesh is generated.

  • Now repeat the above steps by making the hub as current.

  • Now check for tet collapse 0.15.

2)

i) Model-2 TETMESH:

-Element size: 6mm, Tet collapse: 0.15:

  • Open the tetmesh model in Hypermesh.

  • Now clean the geometry using quick edit and auto cleanup tools.

  • Now go to 2D automesh and mesh with element size as 6mm.
  • Now check the quality index.
  • Now go to 3D tetramesh and mesh the cover, tetramesh is generated.

  • Now check for tet collapse 0.15.

ii) Model-4 Chassis assembly:

-Element size: 6mm, Tet collapse: 0.15:

Part-1 Hub:

  • Open the chassis model in Hypermesh.

  • Make the hub component Imported12-1 as current and hide all the other components.
  • Now clean the geometry using defeature, quick edit, and auto cleanup tools.

Quick-edit:

Defeature:

*For the above hub component, the splines and the fillets with a radius less than 15 are removed so that the mesh can be generated properly.

  • Now go to 2D automesh and mesh with element size as 6mm.
  • Now check the quality index.
  • Now go to 3D tetramesh and mesh the cover, tetramesh is generated.

  • Now check for tet collapse 0.15.

Part-2 Other components:

  • Open the chassis model in Hypermesh.

  • Make all other components as current and hide the hub component Imported12-1.

  • Now as mentioned in the video lesson, go to utility-Geom/mesh-Quick Tetramesh.

  • In quick tetramesh, select the components and element mesh size as 6 mm and click on the mesh, tetramesh is generated.

  • Now check for tet collapse 0.15.

Result and Conclusion:

  • For the housing model, the 3D mesh is generated with element sizes 2,5 and 7mm.
  • For model 2 & 4, the 3D mesh is generated with element size as 6mm.
  • Tet collapse of 0.15 is used for all the models.

Thus, we have created 3D meshes for the models provided in the challenge according to the parameters mentioned using Hypermesh.
