MACHINING OPERATION WITH PLANAR

In this challenge we will perform the machining operation using planar on the cuboidal specimen made of steel 1006. The planar tool will be having two different cutting velocity 20000 and 15000 mm/s whereas the specimen kept fixed as shown in the video using the explicit dynamics. Various steps which are performed are explained below-

  1. First, we have selected the Steel 1006 from material library in order to assign it to the specimen.



  1. Now we open the ANSYS mechanical and assign the steel 1006 to the specimen and structural steel to the steel as its stiffness is kept rigid. Also, deleting the contact between the tool and specimen which is generated by default by the ANSYS.


  1. Mesh is produced by providing tetrahedral method of mesh to the tool body and selected 4 edges of the specimen to provide 10 division of sizing. Resulted mesh is shown below-



  1. Before setting the boundary conditions, we must assign the end time value in the analysis setting to 7.5e-4 according to the video, as it is necessary to assign the end time value in explicit dynamics.


  1. Now we set the boundary conditions, providing the different velocities to the tool of 20000 and 15000 mm/s while keeping the specimen fixed. These boundary condition can be seen below-
