Performing mesh clean up on 2D shell elements by hypermesh

Objective : 

Perform  the mesh clean up on 2D shell elements by using hypermesh and radioss for 3 given files.

Understandings from the exercise  and case set up:

Topology : It describes how the elements are bounded or connected

Geometry: It descriebes the shape of an each element

why we need to do mesh ?

By meshing we can broke the given part into pieces and each represents an element

and finite element method reduces the degrees of fredom from infinite to finite with the help

of meshing or discretization(nodes and elements).

 

1. first we need to understand the shape of an  objective 

2. import the cad model into hypermesh 

Hypermesh introduction :

      

title bar : By using the title bar we can upload the cad geometry into hypermesh

Main menu pages  : In main menupage we can edit the geometry or by using   

                                 F11(shortcut).

clean up of geometry :

There should not be any free edges while extracting the midsurface so inorder to generate the midsurface we need to clean up the geomerty with out any free edges .

By using the filler surf in quick edit panel to avoid the fillet geometry error

By using the toggle edge and remove /replace point and  surfedit cleared the unwanted surfaces and toggled it by giving certain tolerance values

EXTRACTING MID SURFACE :

To extract the mid surface check for any free edges and select the surface which we need to be generate the midsurface. by auto extraction option in mid surface and by using extract we can generate the mid surface .

   GEOMETRY ------> MIDSURFACE -------->AUTOEXTRACTION-------->EXTRACT

and by switching off the original geometry we can clearly visual the generated mid surface 

and in tab area  we can find the components of original geometry and mid surface 

                        

1st part AFTER EXTRACTING THE MID SURFACE GEOMETRY :

after extracting the mid surface we should clearly know that to create mesh the midsurface geometry should be clened up,and by using toggling  ignored the holes less than 5 mm. 

               

 for bigger dia holes by using filler surf option created the hole for better mesh flow.

creating mesh with target length of 5mm and minimum and maximum size of      3.5 mm&7mm :

By using automesh command in 2d (F12) and by creating mesh for every part by using proper element size 

and some tools are used for quick mesh those you can find in tool option 

some of them are 

1.reflect

2.project

3.ruled

and smooth command was also used for smoothen the mesh .

some of the short keys are also used for creating the mesh

our target length and min and max size of a mesh should be check after creating the mesh

                           

                            

we can use F10 key for chdecking of element size

 AFTER ASSAIGNING THE THICKNESS FOR PART 1:

                   

Here the thickness for part1 is 2 mm.

Here the thickness for part2 material is 2mm.

Here for the part 3 thr thickness is 1.8.

CONCLUSION:

Hence the mesh clean up on 2d shell elements was done for 3 given parts
